Your Massage Therapist can use a varying amount of pressure as well as techniques to achieve the maximum benefit for your treatment. To do this communication both on their end and yours is essential.
Massage therapists should not only verbally check in with their clients but also read their client's body language for a pain response. Many clients are still under the impression that the more pain the better the massage. That is incorrect. Some discomfort may be felt but you should be able to breathe/speak through it.
At any time during the massage you can let your massage therapist know if you would like more or less pressure. Their feelings will not be hurt and will more likely appreciate the feedback.
